My apologies for a short diary; I was just struck by the contrasts between the families of the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.
Considering that the Republicans consider themselves the party of traditional families and all that, we have John McCain, an adulturer who ditched his old wife for a younger and more attractive woman, and grown children who if memory serves me correctly haven't exactly been poster children of the perfect Republican family, and Sarah Palin, whose eldest daughter is unmarried and pregnant.
Contrast that with the Democratic party candidates Barack Obama, who is happily married, has never had a divorce, and has two young vivacious and beautiful daughters, and Joe Biden, who is a widower and whose children hasn't been in the news in a negative way as far as I can recall.
Republicans like to paint the Democrats as anti-family and in a fairly negative light. But it's the Democratic candidates who appear to have the closer ties with the ideals that the Republicans claim as their mainstay. While I'm sure the more hardline here would just claim it as more Republican hypocrisy, I just consider it as amusingly ironic that the Democratic candidates are more appealing in terms of family than the "conservative" Republicans.
