To have a young intelligent charismatic new face on the political scene
energizes the base and gives the party hope for the future. The knowledge
that things are changing and new standard bearers will once again
do what is best for party and nation rather than themselves brings
renewed belief that things WILL change.
For all of the RNC's arguments about Obama being a celebrity,
last night the Republicans got a taste of their own brand of rock
star.
At First Blush, Palin presents well. She has a style that is relaxed
and easy, the camera likes her, and she can deliver a speech that
rivals the best of them.
Unfortunately this highlights the flaws of McCain. The head of the ticket
should be the reason your party gets excited, not the VP.
Palin is now carrying the water for the Republican party, Should she stumble
the house of cards would collapse, and collapse they may.
Last night Palin's speech opened the door for the Democrats to take
her apart on legitimate issues. This will not be a Swift Boat attack,
but an attack about the issues and the facts.
Palin has reversed her positions on several issues, and is in conflict
with the head of the ticket. She has aggressively lobbied for pork
barrel money and actually supported the Bridge to no where.
In addition the probe into her abuse of power in dealing with a matter
that was of a personal nature is starting to heat up. The email and
phone call trail seems to support the allegations against her.
Palin still has not gone toe to toe with the press and this will be the
true test of the metal of the woman. One thing that Palin showed to
the world was that before she spoke the RNC had no hope.
I only hope that Palin can continue to be the shinning rock star
of change for the RNC. For if her star falls, so will all hope for the
Republican party.
