I woke up to the headline "Palin wow's GOP!"
I have to wonder if they saw they same speech I did? Yes, she was snarky, snide, and juvenile as she read her prepared speech off the teleprompter, but "wow?" I wasn't feeling that, and it didn't appear to me that the participants were unanimously feeling it either.
What I saw was that crazed PTA mom that every one wishes would stop coming to the meetings because she is always mad about something she knows little about.
What I saw was a mother of 5 carting her special needs child on the stage for sympathy's sake.
What I saw was a horror show of that American politics has devolved into.
I saw a woman with a new born pimping her family to try to gain an office she is woefully unqualified for. How sad is it that this candidate feels compelled to fight the Democrats so keenly that she is willing to all but give up every second of attention her newest child deserves from her? I am sorry, if I had a special needs child, I would consider quitting my job to give that child every ounce of my attention and love; not run for a job that will all but separate me from my family for all intensive purposes. Then there is the fact she cut school programs for "special needs children" by 62% as Governor of Alaska. I don't understand!
What I saw was a desperate party on the verge of implosion trying vainly to keep the base interested and energized, not for this election but for the 2012 election.
I saw arrogance in the face of defeat.
I saw petty comments worthy of the worst of FOX news that held much in contempt with little solid reason for why?
I saw the same old song and dance of fear from the GOP spin machine.
Most importantly, I saw an uniquely inexperienced candidate who wasn't vetted do the best with what she has. I can tell you her "best" doesn't match to Biden's worst. I can tell you that her "experience" isn't greater than Obama, no matter how many times she says it is.
I see her as the torch bearer for GOP lies and corruption. Is that really what excites the GOP party? I have to think that it is.
She lied about the "bridge to nowhere." She lied about earmarks. She lied by omission about being a proud American.
She supported that bridge project, to later condemn it (can you say Flip-flop?), and then when it was killed they keep the federal dollars earmarked for it.
She has more that $197 million in earmarks already coming to Alaska, and that's in just two years as Governor of Alaska! Fiscal concervative Republican...I think not.
I can only assume she hates America, as her husband and her are alegedly members of the Alaska Independence Party. For those of you that have missed it somehow, that party's goal is to declare Alaska a sovereign country separate from the United States of America. She may say that was along time ago, but she spoke at their convention in 2006!
Then there are the other things they haven't told you: She want to, and has actively pursued banning books at libraries in Alaska. Her state has huge tax revenues from Oil, and the worst eduction system in the nation. Both she and her daughter are having sex outside of marriage, with babies to prove it, yet Momma Palin preaches abstinence only programs for schools. Lest we should forget the fear of taxes from Obama. No details, just bullet points of how they will go up.
Well taxes will go up for the richest 1%! Taxes will go up for OIL COMPANIES, and other irresponsible corporations. But taxes will go down for the middle class. Does no one care about the MONSTROUS debt that Bush Jr has wrung up? We have to pay it off! It is time to pay the bills, and that means that those exempt from paying the last 8 years now have to pony up. The rest of us have done our part...Now it's time to return to fiscal responsibility! It is time to return to smaller and more fiscally responsible governing, and leave behind the largest government & the largest debt any President has ever created...Let alone a REPUBLICAN President...Thanks for nothing George Walker Bush!
Finally the stuff that really gets me. I just can't believe the gall with which the Republicans are willing to attack any that criticize the kids, and call them "off limits" yet she and the party are actively exploiting them for photo opportunities themselves. Do they not see they hypocrisy in their own actions? Have they not heard the phrase "actions speak louder than words?" Do they really believe Americans that stupid? Perhaps they do. And worse yet, perhaps they are right to make that assumption. It has worked in the past.
Really though, I think they are enjoying a "wow" because she was Bill O'Reilley in lipstick, heels and glasses. I think the Republicans are enjoying the "wow" factor because expectations of this totally unknown person were so very low there was nowhere for her to go but up. We all love good jokes, snarky comments, and sarcastic one-liners, but this is the candidate for second in command of the United States of America. This joking rethug version of Gidget is the one who would be President if anything happens to the geezer McCain should he be elected. That is a very frightening, and very real possibility. Do we want Sarah the "hockey mom" playing snide comments off the Premier of Russia? Does anyone thing the EU will respect this person?
I am ashamed of, and for, the Republicans. They have demonstrated how far we have sunk as Americans. Remember the days when there was respect for the candidates? Remember the days when mud slinging for the sake of it would have been met with boos?
Take the time some day to read our Constitution. Take the time to read our Bill of Rights.
When you are done look back on the speeches of last night, and tell me if you think you were watching our best, or if you were watching the best they could find to deliver one-liners for Rush Limbaugh's show today?
It was like they saw the "More of the Same" slogans from Obama/Biden and decided to give them evidence of exactly that.
Palin is a disaster. She is a pawn. Vagina be damned, she is not a step forward for women, she is a step backwards! This is not a candidate of progress or change, but one determined to stay in the past policies of Reagan no matter the consequences to the nation. She is wed to division and fear as a policy statement and a strategy.
Obama is change personified. His life experience speaks to what the American dream is all about. He has won my vote by clearly and loudly declaring "equality for our gay brothers and sisters." Do you understand the bravery required of any candidate, especially a Christian, to make that statement to the world? No other has had the courage of his convictions as Obama has and does have.
Obama will make America change for the better, and McCain is 4 more years of the same.
Alas, I don't see a leader in Palin. I don't see even a backup person. I see a horribly biased, sheltered, and angry woman with little information, many mistakes to her credit, and microphone!
I can tell you, as you may have guessed, my expectations are low, and she barely came up to meet them.
