I don't want to contribute to Palin fatigue, so I'll try to keep this on McCain as much as I can. But no promises...
Not unlike George W. Bush anointing himself "The Decider" McCain & co. have touted their "experience" more as a capacity for making decisions on issues rather than a track record of choices they've already made.
Well, as anyone with a bad tattoo can tell you:
It's not about making decisions...
It's about making good decisions.
I can't divine the line of logic behind why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives Sarah Palin foreign policy cred, (which John McCain himself is echoing) but I assume they means that she understands the stakes since Alaska could be the easiest place hit by a Russian attack.
But if Palin's Mat Maid Dairy debacle proved anything, it's that being personally invested in a situation doesn't magically qualify you to make the best choices. Simply knowing dairy farmers doesn't qualify you to run a dairy.
And if that theory of management can't apply to dairy farmers selling their milk, how can it apply to our national security?
It's not about making decisions...
It's about making good decisions.
John McCain's secretive claims of "I know how to win wars" or "I know how to catch bin Ladin" are tantamount to extortion against Americans' safety. (or at least it would be if it were true) But while withholding specifics all he's doing is painting himself as another Decider.
It's not about making decisions...
It's about making good decisions.
Career executives like Bush or Palin have no interest in representing constituents or reaching across party lines. The only government positions they're interested in are ones where "because I said so" actually works.
It's not about making decisions...
It's about making good decisions.
Everyone makes decisions. I'm not sure why Republicans try declare the executive branch as having a monopoly on decider-ing. (probably because it's the only branch of the federal government that doesn't have any voting in it)
The bottom line is that McCain/Palin talk about making decisions.
Obama/Biden talk about the quality of their decisions.
