Tonight, John McCain takes his Maverick image before the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. Barack Obama takes his intellect before the anti-intellect that is Bill O'Reilly, and, somewhere, Sarah Palin is avoiding answering questions from the media.
So tonight, on this historic occasion, I again present to you a compendium of music and poetry inspired by the historic candidacy of Barack Obama, perhaps too qualified to be president of the United States (at least compared to the resident of the White House for the last 8 years).
I'm writing this while listening to Tom Ridge LIE his way through a speech introducing John McCain, who knows not "red or blue, but red white and blue."
I refuse to play the "My Friends" drinking game, because I'm deathly afraid of alcohol poisoning.
I CAN'T STAND IT! FOLLOW ME BELOW TO WASH YOUR MIND OUT!!!!
Okay, so I've added a couple of videos and refined my comments a little bit, so I think this is a substantive diary. Sue me if you want to go McCain/Palin 24/7.
And, FWIW, I volunteered last night and bought an "organizing pack" from the obama store, so I'm doing what I can.
The purpose of this diary is to remind us all of why we're doing this, and the energy and hope we all felt at different points in the campaign, and the energy and hope we SHOULD feel after watching the GOP recycle the same divisive B.S. they've been peddling for the last two election cycles.
First off tonight, some snark:
John.he.is
The live version of "Yes We Can"
The original. Damn this is inspiring! I almost cry every time I hear it, especially the line about "the little girl from Dillon."
John Legend singing at the DNC - "If You're Out There."
"We Are the Ones" - We can change the world. Can't we? "My America, Your America, Our America." Damn Straight!
"Podemos Con Obama"
Darian Dauchan - "Damn you, Barack Obama, you pretty motherfucker."
Barack's "Quiet Storms" speech, which one reporter called the best he's done in 20 months of campaigning.
And, this doesn't fit with the theme of hope, but damn if James McMurtry doesn't nail it to the wall with this song:
Dave Stewart - "American Prayer" - Fired UP!
"Hope Changes Everything" - a new one I hadn't seen until tonight!
Barack in Pennsylvania!
"What you're not hearing a lot about is you!" Amen.
"Si Se Puede Cambiar" - This one makes me cry too. Trillions. Trillions, my friends.
Video by Ron English - interesting.
Aaron Leigh, a country-esque song.
And one for the angry folks out there, Rage Against the Machine performing acapella in St. Paul.
