TPM is reporting that Gov. Palin just went out in public and uttered this whopper:
"I think, said Senator Obama, "that the surge has succeeded in way that nobody anticipated." I guess when you turn out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national security decision, maybe it's comforting to pretend that everyone else was wrong too.
But I remember it a little differently. It seems to me there was one leader who did predict success, who refused to call retreat and risked his own career for the sake of the surge and victory in Iraq, and ladies and gentlemen, that man is standing right next to me, Senator John McCain.
Well, Governor, if you "remember it a little differently," that's because you're a ditz.
John McCain didn't think The Surge™ would work, either. And, according to the administration, it hasn't.
McCain spoke in the Senate on February 8, 2007, and said he was "frankly doubtful" that The Surge™ would work. Why? Because it wasn't his plan anymore. Bush had "Iraqified" the plan that McCain and others presented to the president, and McCain thought that was the kiss of death.
Here is John McCain turning out to be profoundly wrong on a vital national security decision:
I guess youtube remembers it differently, governor Ditz.
And here's jedreport, breaking the video.
And here's more on why McCain thought that The Surge™, as planned, was a bad idea.
And here's Josh Marshall from two months ago, explaining why John McCain was hedging his bets on The Surge™.
And here's General Petraeus saying that The Surge™ wasn't the key to success in Iraq, governor Ditz.
So, I guess that means McCain was wrong twice.
Don't worry, I'm sure we can find someone to explain it to you. In the meantime, I can see why they're keeping you away from reporters: it's for your own protection.
