Here's Rudy 9iu11ani's searing indictment of Barack Obama's experience from the RNC:
Giuliani: But [Obama]'s never -- but he's never run a city, he's never run a state, he's never run a business, he's never run a military unit, he's never had to lead people in crisis.
Barack's a real ZERO, as the crowd helpfully informed us just then. But wait! When has John McCain ever been a city mayor, a state governor, or a CEO? When has he "led people in a crisis"? (Granted, you could argue that running his own campaign qualifies...)
After leading the race to the bottom of his class rank at Annapolis, McCain was a pilot in the Navy. Then a POW. After his return from Vietnam, he did command a training squadron, where he managed to improve readiness and safety standards--when he wasn't busy cheating on his disabled wife.
He reportedly had the potential to move into a major command role, but something quite odd happened about then:
McCain decided to leave the Navy. It was doubtful whether he would ever be promoted to the rank of full admiral, as he had poor annual physicals and had been given no major sea command.[66] His chances of being promoted to rear admiral were better, but McCain declined that prospect, as he had already made plans to run for Congress and said he could "do more good there."[67]
I know it's shocking, my friends, but John McCain was actually convinced that becoming part of the Washington Establishment for three decades and voting with George Bush 90-95% of the time would do more good then assuming a major leadership role in the military or anywhere else.
This really is a puzzler, since as we now know, public service of any kind--whether it's community organizing or service in state legislature or even the US Senate--is worth exactly "ZERO! ZERO! ZERO!" If you ain't sitting on the PTA, raking in $27M in federal earmarks for a glorified truck-stop of a town with 6,500 residents, or firing public officials who stand up to your abuses of gubernatorial power, You. Don't. Count.
But I guess being a Senator has done McCain some good: he's helped George Bush and his "Old Boy Network" of Congressional Republicans compile an impressive DC Establishment record that he can now run against.
Yes, my friends, it's Mavericky Illogic YOU can believe in...just as long as you don't think too hard about it.
