I have been puzzled by the lack of comment almost anywhere about the use of the Palin's 4-month old baby as a prop and the announcement - worldwide, that their 17 year-old daughter is pregnant. What kind of parents would do that to their children?
The Democrats have been called the "Mommy" party and I guess I fall into that category as I watched the Republican convention and saw the role that the Palin children played. Why would any caring parent take a 4-month old baby into a convention hall, past its bedtime, filled with thousands of people? Can't they get a babysitter? No, it's to use the baby as a prop.
I admire the Palin's decision to have the child, knowing that it had Down Syndrome, but to pass the baby around amongst family members and others at an event like that? I think that it's shameful and exploitative.
Also, what self-respecting parent would announce to the world - literally - that my 17 year old, unmarried daughter was pregnant? How is that fair to the expectant mother and the unborn child? With all of the Republican talk about celebrity, they are creating celebrity by doing this! This is just the height of cynicism and hypocrisy. And John McCain met the expectant father at the airport! Is he a hero? We all know what the reaction from the right would have been had this happened to a child of a Democratic candidate.
This is an Alice in Wonderland scenario. What is up, is down. What is black, is white, what is right is wrong. I guess that last part is always correct: The Right is wrong!
