I'm sitting here at my desk staring at my laptop trying to calm down. Why, you ask?
OK, OK...just imagine me yelling at the top of my lungs...just stand up and fight again and again. Well... kinda' -- exactly like what McCain did at the closing of his acceptance speech. He inspired me...to fight.
This diary is about the five W's of journalism, media rights, and our rights.
When interviewing someone, why are so many in the media -- news anchors, journalists, reporters and hosts of radio & TV talk shows, so willing to accept a dismissive attitude of the questions. So often when not getting straight answers they just allow the interview to just move on to...oh...whatever.... So just who is in charge? Sounds like Right Wing Intimidation to me.
We need the five W's of Journalism...Who -- What -- Why -- When and -- Where. Period.
Reporters and journalists should not be intimidated by the forces that are driving the media. Simple truth telling, asking hard questions, and getting an answer is their job. Stick to the 5 W's of journalism -- and if their employment position is in jeopardy with a particular media source, then report the damn abuse.
More often than not a guests motto is -- change the topic to whatever best fits their agenda. This has become very apparent especially during this presidential campaign. And more often than not, by the Republican Party -- and the corporate media.
A blantant example of the Republicans misuse of the "power of the media" is when Republican John McCain said that his VP pick, Sarah Palin, won't be doing any interviews right away. When Palin was asked by the media for an interview, she claimed that they were pulling a double standard and accused them of sexisim. Sure enough, the media backed off. Whiners rights? Or Right Wing Whiners. They both win and we lose...our rights.
Therefore, because of these 8 Bush years of controlling the media, it is now crucial to challenge all reporters, commentators, TV/radio hosts and journalists alike to fight for these rights.... Just stand up and fight for what you know is the right thing to do.
We need assurances that We the People of the United States are getting answers to our questions. And...for the media to continue to ask the hard questions and that they demand the facts and the truths.
Asking a question is not sexism, it is not racisim, it is journalism.
