A letter to the editor in my hometown newspaper, the Orange County Register of all places, had the best argument I've seen for those still wondering who to vote for.
It's also been a subject key in my thoughts since the RNC. Here's the letter:
As an Independent, I am saddened by the knee-jerk partisanship that plays out between both major parties. We are facing the most serious crisis of a generation, yet many people are more concerned with supporting their party at all costs than they are with solving the crisis.
The crisis is our oil addiction, which gravely impacts the three most important issues facing the country and planet: our economy, our foreign policy and the environment. The solution is electing a president willing to face entrenched forces and break the addiction by encouraging renewable energy development.
Based on John McCain's voting record, he's the wrong man. The last eight times the Senate tried to pass a bill to extend tax credits for renewable energy, he did not see fit to vote. I bet you can also guess which candidate has received by far the most campaign contributions from oil interests.
If you want to elect a president that will work to break our oil addiction, do not vote for John McCain. Forget party allegiance, John McCain is part of the problem, not the solution
They are running another shell game (literally, if you know the oil company) to use any diversion possible to keep oil companies in their reign.
Palin's red meat for the social conservatives who don't care about leadership, and instant celebrity for the reality show culture. McCain's running against the Bush record suddenly, blah, blah.
So, you go Noah. God bless you for articulating the essential issue of this election.
