Last weekend I wrote a little piece comparing this election to ultimate fighting. I also expressed hope that Obama would step up to the realization and get into the game post-Palin.
It seems that he has, with a new ad that calls the GOP "Mavericks" exactly what they are: liars. A good start, and I hope there is more where that came from.
There is no doubt that the Palin choice was a hard shot by McCain. The proof of our guy's worth is not that he got hit, but how he and his team suck up the shot and take the fight to McCain. I am seeing signs that they are doing just that.
In hopes of keeping that fighting spirit up among all us Kossacks, here's a little story that I think sums up how I would like to see Obama take this on:
As a new kid in Viginia middle-school back in the 70's, I was treated pretty badly by the big tough kids in the back of the bus. Inevitably, they decided that one of the bullies who got off at my stop would kick my ass after we got off the bus. He was a year or two older and a lot bigger than me. They did not make any secret of what was going down, so I knew exactly what they had in mind. But they did not know what I had in mind.
When we got to the bus stop, I let their designated hitter go on ahead of me. I got right behind him as we got to the step leading out the bus door. As he was about to get off the bus, I slammed him in the back and then jumped right on top of him. We tumbled out of the bus onto the sidewalk. I then proceeded to grab him by the hair and smash his forehead into the pavement a few times. Fight over.
The bus driver just smiled and drove off. The bullies left me alone from that day on.
And I am a Democrat.
