A little birdie tells me that tonight on the NBC Nightly News these numbers will be revealed:
Obama/Biden 46
McCain/Palin 45
MORE...
The last poll had it 45-42. So this is not that dramatic a change. A natural tightening you would expect after McCain's convention and the unifying of his base behind his veep pick. All in all, not such a bad result.
The NBC News Wall Street Journal poll is just about the most respected in the biz. Conducted by Peter Hart, a lot of people think it's the gold standard. I say pick one poll and follow it for trend lines. The absolute number in any national poll doesn't really mean a whole lot anymore.
State by state polls are much more important now. Get to 270 or 269 tie. There are a number of ways for Obama to do it. My favorite is to hold all the Kerry states, add Iowa and New Mexico plus either Colorado, Virginia, or Nevada. Any of those last three would do it.
Keep all this poll madness in perspective.
Give money to the Obama campaign - as much as you can.
Organize, organize, organize.
And widen your circle by contacting friends and family. If your granny needs a ride to the polls, make sure she has one.
Just do all you can for the next 2 months.
Update:
