Despite the gloomy predictions by the New York Times and others about supposedly dire fundraising woes, Obama has apparently topped his previous record haul of $55 million, according to this story by Mathew Mosk at WashingtonPost.com
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/...
According to Mosk,
Sen. Barack Obama broke his monthly fundraising record of $55 million in August, sources said today, but the campaign remains tight lipped about its total haul.
Money totals aren't due to be released until September 20, when the filings become public,
But top fundraisers for the campaign wanted to downplay a report in today's New York Times suggesting Obama's vaunted money-raising team has been struggling to meet its goals.
McCain has already released his August totals -- $47 million -- his best fundraising month by far.
Obama's fundraisers said the real test comes in October, with the campaign banking on an increase in online donations from their 2 million donors, many of whom have contributed small amounts but are well positioned to donate additional amounts.
OK Kossacks -- if for no other reason than to take it to the media, which today has been distributing stories of funding woes -- let's make sure we do all we can to help Obama. It's been a tough week, with Palin Palin Palin Palin all the time (gosh, she's a celebrity, imagine that!) so let's put our money and our time where our mouths are. I donated $50.01 the night of the Palin speech at the RNC, and I thought I was done for a few weeks, but I'm fired up and ready to donate again. Who'll match me (with any amount you can afford -- doesn't have to be the same, but do let's remember to add the .01 at the end to indicate it's from a Kossack!
We need to pitch in big time, because
the McCain camp has already made clear it plans to challenge any advantage Obama will have gained by forgoing federal funds. They will rely heavily on the Republican National Committee, which is expected to raise significantly more than its Democratic counterpart. The RNC's top fundraisers have said they hope to raise $100 million in September and October to help offset or even erase Obama's potential financial edge
.
Come on, let's show them we're willing to fight for our candidate and our country. As soon as I hit the "publish" button I'm over to http://www.barackobama.com to donate. Let's get a donation thread going.
