"Thankfully we have the right to express our reaction...This is all thanks to our U.S. military men and women putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's right to free speech."
Our military does not exist -- nor fight -- for our right to free
speech.
Our military exists to defend We, the People, and our government. It is We, the People,
who secure our rights through force of law.
If our government prohibited freedom of speech, then THAT would be the state which our U.S. military men and women would put their lives on the line to secure.
I saw Gene Simmons in a visit to Camp Pendleton thanking Marines "because you give us our rights."
NO!...WRONG!!
We, the People, give OURSELVES our rights.
Once we start conferring the military with power over our Constitutional rights, then by definition we have also conferred upon them the power to rescind them.
Our military's job is to follow the orders of We, the People. Period. The law of the land once counted black people as three-fifths of a person and forbade women the vote. Our brave military secured that situation too. Because THAT WAS THEIR JOB.
Sarah, dear, next time you accept an apology on behalf of your daughters and all womankind...spare us the jingoistic sidebar.
