Listening to President Bush at his last press conference, it made me so thankful we're only one week and one day until he's 'off the stage.'
Of the ridiculous defiance and self-pitying tone of his remarks, I was most astounded at his answer to whether he had any regrets about his response to Hurricane Katrina.
I was SHOCKED, simply SHOCKED that his reflections on regret seemed to completely focus on if and where he landed his plane versus having regret over the fact that thousands of people were left stranded in dire circumstances for days and he had the power to change that.
After eight years in office, Bush still seems to have such a limited view of what the presidency means and the powers that the president and government have.
He could've done a zillion things differently to provide relief and safety and protection and care to people in the wake of a major natural disaster with devastating impact. It's honestly like he has zero idea of what the president and the government CAN do and then he obviously has no clue what he SHOULD have done.
But what sticks in his mind - whether he personally visited the Superdome and convention centers instead of doing a fly over.
He doesn't regret saying 'good job Brownie.' He doesn't regret sending food, water, medical care, more public safety, transportation immediately out of harms way, more resources to search for people in the immediate wake of the storm.
UPDATED: His answer to the first Katrina question solely remarked on whether he would've taken resources away if he tried to visit the site too early. The second question, he focused only on getting people off their roofs:
(from the AP story) Bush said he disagrees with those who say the federal response to Hurricane Katrina was slow.
"Don't tell me the federal response was slow when there were 30,000 people pulled off roofs right after the storm passed. ... Could things been done better? Absolutely. But when I hear people say the federal response was slow, what are they going to say to those chopper drivers or the 30,000 who got pulled off the roof?" he said.
His remarks were one last bitter reminder of what a self-centered, self-concerned, self-justifying, self-serving, unreflective, un-understanding, unknowledgeable baffoon we've had had the helm for eight long years!
Thanks goodness we only have eight more days until Obama!!!
