During the late 60's I attended Lincoln University with Gil Scott-Heron.Before class we would have small talk about why we were there and what we wanted to do with our lives.Gil was drawn to Lincoln because of his admiration of Langston Hughes(Lincoln Grad.)and his interest in poetry and music. After a few years at Lincoln he moved to a successful career in music with fellow Lincoln student Brian Jackson.SMALL TALK AT 125 TH AND LENOX,THE BOTTLE,AND THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED were a few of his albums.
As we head into the next week I am wondering what Gil would think about what is about to take place.I 1968 and 1969 we would never believe this day would come peacefully. It was the time of Kent State and anger.I can remember one protest meeting at the campus church where we discussed marching from campus down rt. 1 into downtown Oxford,Pa. Cooler heads prevailed and a another method was chosen but these were volitale times. As we watch the "public" spectacle next week keep in mind that the real revolution will not be televised. It will take place behind the scenes by the people who Barack has placed in power to change things. There is alot to do to reverse the damage that has been done.As witnessed at Bush's press conference yesterday. He still believes he has made us safer and improved our standing in the world. He has done exactly the opposite.Instead of reducing the number of terriost in the world he has doubled or tripled their number.Just in Iraq he has killed over 100,000 civilians. How do you think their brothers, sisters etc.feel about the USA.Time to go to work and reverse this.Peace Gil Scott-Heron.
