Many progressives view Joe Wurzlebacher (JTP henceforth) as a phoney, a stooge, or a wannabe right-wing hack. I agree that he is all of these things, but I feel that he represents an important window into American political discourse.
I salute him, and hope that he continues in his work.
JTP is making the same points, and blindly accepting the same assumptions about the middle east that most MSM commentators do:
Israel is right about everything. By "Israel" Joe means the annexationist right. Joe doesn't acknowledge the deep progressive movement in Israel.
Arabs are bad. Arabs have no legitimate grievances. They had their chance and they blew it. They're all killers.
Any level of violence and brutality by the IDF or free-lancing "settlers" is okay. Cluster munitions and phosphorus are okay. see point number two if you need help understanding why.
Civilian casualties are the arab's fault, even if the IDF is using tactics that would put US armed forces personnel in prison, and even though the IDF is acting opposite to the Petraeus counter-insurgency doctrine, which holds that avoiding civilian casualties is of paramount importance.
The media shouldn't report what is going on, and we shouldn't discuss it, either. Facts and visuals might undermine support for 1-4.
The US blind support for Israel is great and will have no adverse consequences for us. After all, God is on our side. We're standin' tall with Israel!
When Joe says this stuff, sure its stupid propoganda.
But is it really any different from the networks, or the NYT (which has yet to report on Israel banning arab political parties, for example).
I think JTP is doing us all a service. He's a naked demonstration of the talking points on the cue-cards that the rest of our media are reading from.
Personal note: I think Israel has a right to exist, and to defend itself in a rational and proportionate manner. My issue here is the corruption of political discourse, with JTP as a prime specimen.
