UPDATE: This started as a diary about Israel's bombing of the U.N. in Gaza, but while I wrote it another diary on that subject came up on the rec list. Consider this a compendium of other news from the region, stuff you might not see elsewhere...
So today Israel showed that it really doesn't give a crap about International Law by bombing the U.N. headquarters in Gaza:
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israel shelled the United Nations headquarters in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, engulfing the compound and a warehouse in fire and destroying thousands of pounds of food and humanitarian supplies intended for Palestinian refugees.
This is a dream-come-true for the neo-cons, and finally proves that the United Nations is, sadly, a joke.
It's a funny coincidence that the U.N. was also bombed right out of Iraq. They left with their tail between their legs.
One has to wonder if they'll slink away from Gaza in the same fashion.
It's a happy day for the neo-cons, who have often advocated bombing the U.N. in New York (and claiming they were joking). Some are reporting that white phosphorous bombs were used in the attack on the U.N..
In related news, UNICEF is now reporting that 300 children are known to have been killed in Gaza since this atrocity began.
The head of the United Nations children's agency says 300 children have been killed during Israel's campaign in the Gaza Strip.
UNICEF director, Ann Venemen, says more than 1,500 other children have been wounded, casualties she calls "tragic" and "unacceptable."
Which is not surprising, considering that Dennis Kucinich tells us here that half the population of Gaza is under 14 years old.
But for the Israelis who support this, that's just fine, because they were gonna grow up to be terrorists anyway, right? Hm, maybe not the dead ones ...
And here's a really interesting table that shows the comparison between the Israeli fighting forces and the Palestinians: (it's a little one sided to say the least)

Definitely a recipe for slaughter!
And if you're interested in seeing photos of said slaughter, including a few of those children UNICEF is talking about, well, here's your chance (warning, graphic):

I kinda doubt you'll see these on CNN.
In other news, physical evidence is accumulating that the IDF did indeed use outlawed white phosphorous shells in Gaza.
And now we have reports that Israel deploys military units along the border with Lebanon amid growing concerns that the assault on Gaza was the onset of a multi-front war.
The United States is officially cheerleading this, giving it 100% approval, and its overwhelming financial backing.
With our money, and without asking us what we think of it.
That's what our "representatives" are doing in our Washington D.C.
Ain't Democracy grand?
