John Yang of MSNBC just came on said that the final wave of Bush pardons was just released and only included 2 names.
Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean had their sentences commuted. They were not fully pardoned.
According to Yang, that's it. Apparently, Bush will not be pardoning anyone else for the duration of his term. If this reporting is accurate, Bush has decided not to pardon anyone from his administration.
I did not have much of an opinion on the Ramos & Compean case, unlike say...Lou Dobbs. But it seems reasonable enough that they would have their prison sentences shortened, while still having to pay fines and so forth. They will be released from prison in March.
Honestly, I am pretty surprised at this development. It seems Bush has already pardoned everyone he saw fit and decided his people were not in jeopardy of facing prosecution in the future.
Hopefully, John Yang is right and Bush will not file any more pardons during the next 20 or so hours he has left in office. Thank goodness.
UPDATE: MSNBC.com finally added an article to their site but it was written by the AP and focuses on the 2 commutations and previous pardons. Still waiting on confirmation of what Yang reported about this being the last wave.
UPDATE 2: OK, The AP did include this nugget which would confirm John Yang's report:
Bush technically has until noon on Tuesday when President-elect Barack Obama is sworn into office to exercise his executive pardon authority, but presidential advisers said no more were forthcoming.
