Let's all give Joe a hardy DK welcome back. Sen. Joe Lieberman is fully embracing Obama-mania now!
"This is truly a great day for our blessed nation! I was deeply moved and inspired by President Obama's eloquent and stirring address. Now is the time to unite as a nation behind our new president's leadership and address the challenges facing our country at home and abroad," Lieberman said in a statement issued after the event.
Lieberman has been singing Obama's praises for months.
For months, people.
Sorta not safe for work on the flip.
Lieberman questioned Obama as "an untested candidate unwilling to challenge powerful interest groups" as McCain had done.
On ABC, Charles Gibson said "it is surreal to see a man who was on the Democratic ticket, the vice presidential nominee, with Al Gore, talking to a Republican convention and urging this convention to vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin."
Forget that. Let's let bygones be bygones.
On Palin..
She's so strong, she's so capable, she's so competent," Lieberman told the cheering crowd. Emphasizing her "faith," he added that she is someone who "with your help--and God's help--will be the next vice president of the United States." More big cheers.
Excuse me for a moment.
Who would seriously take this guy back? I know he was punished slightly and he's going to vote with you most of the time, but now he's coming back to kiss the ring of the man he destroyed out on the stump?
I guess there's nothing to be done. We've tried everything else.
