I no sooner get out of bed on my morning off, and turn on the TV (which happened to be on CNN) and I see Hillary Clinton being welcomed to the State Dept. There is a welcome being given by what I presume is a career State Dept staff person.
I tune in just in time to hear there words, and I paused the TIVO so I could write them down on here.
Madame Secretary, both you and the President have decried the neglect that the Foriegn Service and the State Department as a whole has suffered in recent years. No one knows better than the people in this room and our collegues posted all over the world how true that is.
OK, I know that the fact that diplomacy was ignored by the Bushies is not knews (except to maybe that ignorant 20%) but to HEAR someone with enough prominence in the State Dept to be given HRC an official and televised welcome to her new post, is absolutely unbelieveable.
If you can't tell from the enthusiastic welcome you have recieved so far, we are --THRILLED-- to have you here
And the camera pans to a lobby-ish area that is packed with cheering, clapping, smiling people.
It seriously feels like the kind of welcome our FORMER VP Dick Cheney thought our troops was going to recieve in Iraq.
