Yeah we know Rush Limbaugh is an idiot. But so are a lot of Republicans and Democrats merely because they identify themselves as such.
I'm a Seattle Mariners fan, probably could be accused of caring a little too much for the Seahawks too. And for a lot of reasons I absolutely hate the New York Yankees. Why the M's and 'hawks you ask? I live 40 miles from Seattle, I go to the games and been rooting for them since I could walk, talk and contemplate a double-steal and cornerback blitz. And for much of the country (and world) people have a loyalty to sports teams. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and if anything its that little stupid thing that brings families and communities together.
But here's Rush's problem, and too many others on both sides of the aisle...they think there has to be a loyalty to party too. If Obama fails then Rush's team wins. Problem is if Obama fails then so does the country.
Parties are merely instruments of politics. They change, evolve...remember that at one time the Republicans were the progressive party and the Strom Thurmond wing of the Democratic Party were the racist assholes.
People need to realize that you cannot be loyal to a party like you are to a sports team (maybe religion too, but that's another can of worms). There is a difference, they represent certain ideals (that morph and change) as do we, but somethings are more important...like Americans.
Maybe its easy because I come from Washington State where people are fiercely independent. But, maybe its just me, I don't think people should be Republican or Democrat because of their race, location, job or because their great-great grandfather was.
