The economic recovery package does not yet include as much support for public transprotation as many advocates hoped for. If we are going to reduce greenhouse gasses we need to get people out of their cars as well as weatherizing homes and building a smart grid. Without public transit improvements we won't be able to do that.
Rep. Nadler of New York has introduced an amendment that will be voted on today to add $3 billion for public transportation to the recovery package. This will bring funding up to the level reccomended by the House committee on Transportation. Please contact your house member as soon as possible to ask or their support for the Nadler amendment.
