The IL governor, Blagojevich has not been indicted and now Fitzgerald wants 90 more days before deciding whether to indict him. What does this tell ya? Fitz's media event was a probably a deliberate Bush Justice Dept. attempt to embarass the incoming Obama administration and hurt him in the public's perception. Didn't work. Also, I believe Fitz's "socalled wiretap transcripts" probably were heavily edited to prop up his hyperbole.
Fitzgerald has been investgating Blagojevich for four years. Suddenly, a couple of months before the election, he suddenly needs wiretaps? He waits four years and never before needed to walk over the building he described so vividly during his media blast where wiretaps are approved. Give me a break, folks. He wanted to catch the Obama team saying something illegal or doing something illegal. Fitzgerald is supposed to be a stand-up guy but when I watched him during this press conference, he was so florid in speech and talking about how he could have lived with himself, I thought "this guy is acting so out of character from what we have seen before, what is up with this?"
I especially noted his body language and significant look at the FBI guy when he was asked if the Obama transition team knew about the investigation and wiretaps. Go back and look at the tape. This whole thing is hinky. It was also obvious Obama and team did not know about the wiretaps based on Obama's terse (angry) initial response. He was p'ed off that they had pulled this on him and revealed it now when the so-called grand jury was supposed to indict Blago the next day.
I saw a former Justice Dept. U. S. Attorney on CNN several days later. He said, they could have waited for the actual indictement as it was only to be a day or so later. I also think Fitzgerald was on a fishing expedition and he doe not have the legal goods. He was hoping he could shame him out. Legally, the governor could say any darn thing he wishes except kill the prez. Reading the transcript carefully, you do not find the guy actually said anything that make stick legally. I am not defending the IL governor but I didn't see the Dems moaning and being agressive about all of Bush's picks (some without a degree or any skills or knowlege whatsoever) for the prominent and impactfull positions in his administration. It is also very apparent many or most were given because of monies donated. Same thing, Blago was just cruder in his language.
The Senate Dems including Reid and Prez-elect Obama need to shut this farce down now. They look like a bunch of boos who will go into the next administration easily distracted by crap. Seat Burris. The governor has the legal authority to appoint, the Sec. of State does not have the authority to balk. So many serious issues is at hand. This ain't one of them.
