The Washington Post reported about 20 min. ago that Obama wants CNN personality and medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta to become the next surgeon general.
Article Here At first I took pause at the notion of Gupta since he's a tv personality. However, he seems to be a man if substance and would be high-profile enough to bring attention to medical policy issues. As the article explains, Gupta was also a White House fellow and helped write policy speeches for Hillary Clinton in the late 1990's . So he's probably a Democrat.
The offer followed a two-hour Chicago meeting in November with Obama, who said that Gupta could be the highest-profile surgeon general in history and would have an expanded role in providing health policy advice, the sources said. Gupta later spoke with Tom Daschle, Obama's White House health czar and nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, and other advisers to the president-elect.
The pick also adds diversity to the administration. Gupta would have to take a severe pay cut, though. Would any of you give up all that money? Is Gupta a good choice?
