I’ve just watched PE Barack Obama give his Economy Speech live on my teevee. I am crying my eyes out, unexpectedly.
This is it.
I admit Ive been rather impatient these past few days with the various news and topics of discussion. I'm really just waiting. Waiting for Inauguration Day. Counting down. Waiting for the show to get on the road. Waiting for the magic to start. Like an impatient child in the backseat on the road trip: "Are we there yet?"
We are.
Today marks the moment for me. We’re "there". I know that "there" is just the beginning, but finally finally finally... We. Are. There.
This speech this morning... I watched and listened as our PE deployed his reknowned campaign rhetoric for the first time as President. There were no campaign "promises" or the hypotheticals of the "IF elected..." or chants of hopeful "Yes We Can’s". And then he said, something... "as President of the United States, I..." That’s when I lost it.
edit: here it is (thanks to TocqueDeVille for the full transcript):
That is not the country I know, and it is not a future I will accept as President of the United States. A world that depends on the strength of our economy is now watching and waiting for America to lead once more. And that is what we will do.
Today was the first Yes We Will moment.
There’s light at the end of this long dark tunnel.
Praise God, the Universe, the Powers That Be. Thank God. And thank YOU.
Whatever you do, or dream, begin it now.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now. ~Goethe
