Looks like all four Democratic candidates got out of the blocks fast in fundraising for the December 8th primary to fill the remainder of Ted Kennedy's Senate term.
The Boston Globe (here) has nearly all the story (Blue Mass Group has a few more details).
It's early, but the news isn't pretty for GOP hopeful State Senator Scott Brown.
Atty Gen Martha Coakley led the pack:
Attorney General Martha Coakley raised more than $2 million in the first month of the Senate race, her campaign said yesterday, an impressive figure that helps neutralize what was seen as perhaps her biggest vulnerability.
The fund-raising haul, which more than doubled the campaign’s publicly stated goal for September, is a show of force for a candidate who was the first to announce her Senate bid, enjoys wide leads in early public polling, and is the only contender in the race who has proven she can win statewide.
Congressman Michael Capuano:
Another contender - US Representative Michael E. Capuano of Somerville, who had $1.2 million in his federal campaign account as of July - has raised more than $300,000 in the past two weeks and has $1.1 million left in his account, his campaign said yesterday.
His ads have already started to appear - at least on Boston TV.
Boston Celtics co-owner:
Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca, another Democratic challenger, has raised more than $200,000, including $150,000 for the primary, according to campaign aides.
But, he's got something like $400 Million of his own money earned the hard way, working as a venture capitalist. He also has ads running.
From Blue Mass Group comes this little tidbit about City Year (a youth volunteer organization) founder Alan Khazei:
The Citizens for Alan Khazei campaign announced today that it raised more than $1 million. Khazei, who raised more than $1 million without taking a dime from PAC and lobbyist money, challenged the other candidates to join him in refusing to take PAC and lobbyist money.
That is an astounding number for a "nobody" candidate. BTW, Pagliuca has taken the no-PAC pledge as well.
Ms. Coakley has certainly done a great job with fundraising. EMILY'S list certainly helped. She has also received a slew of labor endorsements.
Our Republican friend, Scott Brown:
And the campaign of state Senator Scott Brown of Wrentham, who is running for the Republican nomination, said it had raised $154,525 since Sept. 12 and has $136,000 remaining.
Course that's just because he's NOT beholden to special interests. Beholden to nobody with any cash, I 'd say.
He's saving money by not advertising on NewsMax anymore. By the way, he apologized on Blue Mass Group for that ad placement. And that he found the column offensive. Classy for a GOP'er. I will give him credit for that. Senator McCain, you have anything to say about advocating a military coup? Senator McCain? Hello?!?!?!
