Boehner really asked for it.
Politico's Glenn Thrush:
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has just more or less dared proponents of a public option to bombard his office with their expressions of support of the plan.
...
"I'm still trying to find the first American to talk to who's in favor of the public option, other than a member of Congress or the administration" said Boehner, whose sole recent foray into a public discussion of health care reform was a tea-party-style event in Ohio a few weeks back.
I am not sure if Boehner has met very few people or never leaves the tanning booth, but this claim is ludicrous on its face. Perhaps he meant "real Americans" a la Sarah Palin.
And don't forget yesterday, when Boehner attacked President Obama for spending the day in Copenhagen to lure the Olympic Games to Chicago. I wonder where Boehner's outrage was when President Bush spent four days in Beijing for the 2008 Olympics, or when Bush spent 487 days of his term at Camp David.
As President Obama said, the time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. It's time for Boehner to get a wake up call. Or if he's already awake, just calling him works, too. Invite the Minority Leader to meet you, a regular, real American, who supports the Public Option. I'm sure such a meeting would enlighten him. His office's contact information is below.
