OK, like most of my diaries, this is sort of tongue-in-cheek.
But recently, both with no retirement income but Social Security income that is moderately high, we decided to drive from Florida to Maryland and "take it easy" so we could arrive early and leave late in wonderful towns like Savannah, Charleston, etc. ending up at Ocean City MD where our kids and grandkids live.
(Just as an aside, Ocean City MD is awesome in October. Tourists mostly gone, kids back in school.) We had a very reasonable suite (living room, full kitchen, awesome jacuzzi bath, heavenly bed.)
But, before we left, we had to find a nice place to board our 13-year old cat. We chose a nearby vet since the cat was due for shots and a "check-up."
The cost of doing this turned out to be (well, not a million but close to a thousand.) He was deemed perfectly healthy except for "fleas" which were treated. Now, I know that a 10-day stay at a hospital for humans would have been a lot higher but I do think that $100 a day is a bit high if you are in a 2-by 2 foot cage and the only treatment you needed was flea medicine.
But what else could we do? We didn't want to dump our cat on friends or family members (none of whom are "cat people") nor did we want to leave him home alone for that long, even though many friends offered to check up on him daily. (We have an automatic litter box.)
Like I said, most of my posts are kind of "who cares" but I just wanted to get this off my chest.
