No, this isn't snark. It's Fox News reporting the truth for the first time!! Ladies and gentleman, a left wing conspiracy has been going on for the past few years, and it has finally come to fruition. WE ARE IN CHARGE OF THE CORPORATIONS!!! Or so says Fox News columnist, Tom Borelli, who can't come up with any other explanation for why some corporations may actually be on board for fighting global climate change. The fact that companies like Duke Energy, Starbucks, and G.E. may be concerned about the planet (and figure they can make a buck or two saving it) could never be the reason. It has to be a left wing conspiracy. For your amusement, read below the fold.
I almost spit out my coffee this morning reading this column. I had no idea Fox News did comedy. But I guarantee a giggle reading Torelli's explanation as to why Senator Lindsay Graham would team up with Senator John Kerry in supporting a global climate change bill to curb CO2 emissions:
The commentary follows the launch of "We Can Lead" -- a campaign to promote climate change legislation by a coalition of big business, environmental, labor and left-wing special interest groups.
This high-profile corporate support of Obama’s energy policy exposes a long-simmering development in public policy: the progressive takeover of the boardroom.
Um. Well. Um. Did I miss that memo? I mean seriously guys. This is Daily Kos, the progressive community on the internet. How come we missed this story? It's pretty embarrassing that Fox News scooped us! Borelli continues:
The unification of big business with liberal activist groups on important public policy issues poses a significant threat to liberty and limited government. As we are observing, the collective power of these groups is big enough to fashion a bipartisan compromise on climate change even during a raging national debate over health care.
Huh? I thought many big corporations were just in the process of trying to kill health care reform. But I digress. We must not get in the way of The Biggest Conspiracy Theory Ever.
The fine print disclosures about We Can Lead, reveal that two left-wing advocacy groups – Apollo Alliance and CERES – are behind the corporate effort.
The Apollo Alliance is "a coalition of labor, business, environmental, and community leaders" that seeks to advance a green energy economy that will produce "a new generation of high-quality, green-collar jobs." Its board members include representatives from environmental organizations and labor unions – the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Van Jones, former White House "green jobs czar" was also board member.
CERES? Remember that acronym, guys, because it's the new ACORN, baby. He claims that they scared the bejeezus out of the CEOs, who decided they could not fight, um, US, and decided to go along with the whole left wing agenda. Or as he said, they "realized that by supporting environmental initiatives they could avoid the headache of liberal activism". Yeah, really. The health care industry knows exactly what he's talking about. Oh, wait ....
Later in the article, he actually did write a few sane things like the concessions to much of industry in the House Waxman-Markey bill. But he viewed that as part of the left wing conspiracy, not the usual way corporations deal with Congress (whether it be Republican or Democratic). In conclusion (one of my favorite parts of the article), he puts it into perspective:
Those of us who believe in limited government must now deal with the threat posed by an emergence of a state where the powers of government, liberal activist groups and corporate interests loot us of our liberty.
Liberal activist groups and corporate interests are one in the same!! Who knew?
