MoveOn has a nice video about the public option making the health insurance industry shape up through competition, via BAGnewsNotes:
BagNews succinctly gets to the subtext:
I'm only wondering why it took so long for the Dems to turn the laser beam...on the fat, happy and defiant health insurance industry. Given the super size of the target, the new Move On video, "Track Meet," is wickedly funny (with the Blue Cross guy and the sexualizing of Big Blue's obscene profiteering being perfectly audacious)...
The killer meme throughout the rest of the battle?
It's gluttony.
But there's another implicit subtext as well in this time of the meltdown of whole industries that have gotten out of touch with reality. The health insurance industry may think it's happy wallowing in its gluttony, but it's setting the stage for its own downfall if it doesn't change its ways, like that slobby CIGNA rep who's headed straight for a heart attack if he doesn't shape up.
In other words, competition will be good for the industry too if it takes the opportunity to reform its ways. As to whether the health insurance industry deserves to survive after all the murder-by-spreadsheet they've engaged in, well, that's a different matter.
