According to Talking Points Memo, a Teabagger activist named Carol Dietz sent an e-mail to the "Tea Party" group trying to incite a revolution lest they suffer the fate of millions of European Jews:
"The jews KNEW that they were the target of Hitler--this didn't happen over night, they had PLENTY of warning--and they didn't DO anything," Dietz wrote. "They went like sheep quietly to their slaughter--they did not fight." Dietz concluded: "WE NEED A REVOLUTION."
This is not the first time we've heard this comparison and likely Dietz did not come up with the idea all on her own. Glenn Beck has made numerous comparisons between Hitler and Obama; he told his listeners that Fox "News" were the Jews, and Obama would come for Fox first, then he would come for the others:
When they're done with Fox, and you decide to speak out on something. The old, "first they came for the Jews, and I wasn't Jewish." When you have a question, and you believe that something should be asked, they're a -- totally fine with you right now; they have no problem with you.
When they're done with Fox and talk radio, do you really think they're going to leave you alone if you want to ask a tough question? Do you really think that a man who has never had to stand against tough questions and has as much power as he does -- do you really believe after he takes out the number one news network, do you really think that this man is then not going to turn on you? That you and your little organization is going to cause him any hesitation at all not to take you out?
This has been widely reported as Beck suggesting Obama will come after other news organizations after he sends Fox "News" employees to the gas chamber, but to his listeners, he could just as well have been referring to the "Tea Party" organizations.
Then we have Orly Taitz, who continues to insist that FEMA camps are being set up like concentration camps with the intent of detaining "dissidents" (like her?).
So the Teabaggers believe they are the Jews persecuted under Hitler. Apparently Fox "News" has obtained secret documents that show Hitler had a plan in place to force the Jews to accept health care coverage so they could see physicians when they were sick. He also planned to send funds to all Jewish districts to help them rebuild their infrastructure, improve the energy efficiency of their homes, and employee more people.
Hitler also wanted to ensure that every Jewish child had a college education. He planned to allow them to continue to make their own choices about reproductive health and not choose to have an abortion if they did not want one. He was committed to not forcing Rabbis to perform marriages in cases where they claimed it violated their religious sensibilities.
He planned to start a program to help them get financial credits for purchasing new more efficient cars and their first home. He wanted consumer protections so they could not get scalped by loan sharks. He also had a plan for weakening bankruptcy laws and extending unemployment benefits to help Jews through troubled economic times.
As everyone knows, Hitler tried very hard to reach across the aisle and work with Germans in other political parties, even sacrificing some popularity among his own constituents. Hitler reached out to people in all nations with a message of peace and optimism--like the Russians and the British.
Hitler surrounded himself with a diverse group of people from all walks of life--different genders, races, religions, sexual orientation--he was truly an equal opportunity fascist.
When one looks at all these things Hitler planned to do or did, it is easy to see how Teabaggers might worry that the fate of the Jews will be their fate, too.
Actually, what it really illustrates is how offensive this comparison is. It is offensive to the Jewish people (and others) who died in the Holocaust and to their loved ones who survived, and it is offensive to the president.
How can they imagine, in any way, that their situation bears any resemblance to what happened? Are their neighborhoods being segregated then fenced in with barbed wire? Have their children been kicked out of public schools? Are they being forced to prove their identity and made to sew elephants onto their clothing or teabags to demonstrate that they are not "one of us"? Are their jobs being given to liberals, and do signs in the windows say "Teabaggers need not apply"?
Where are these "warning signs" that indicate Obama has a master plan in place to kill all conservatives? And do they really think liberals would go along with it? Most of us even oppose the execution of people who torture and kill others, let alone the execution of people we just disagree with politically.
I understand why people like Beck and Taitz say what they do; it's a game to increase their popularity and further pad their bank accounts by using outrageousness to attract more attention.
I do not understand how anyone--let alone more than one person--could be so ignorant as to believe this is Obama's agenda. If Teabaggers want a Revolution, I hope they are prepared to get far more than they bargained for--they make up a small minority of people in this country, and the majority is not likely to let them march to Washington and take over the country.
What I find the most ironic is that when it comes down to actual policies that infringe on peoples' freedoms, it is generally the conservatives who favor them. The problem with conservatives like these teabaggers is that they believe the government is the enemy, and the kind of government it is or what kinds of actions it is carrying out do not really matter. They have even started to cannibalize their own.
The fact that they can even say the things they do--that Beck not only shows up on Fox and on the radio but gets paid millions to do it--is proof enough that their situation is nothing like what the Jews experienced under Hitler. Every one of them should be ashamed for making such a comparison and should be required to visit the Holocaust museum every weekend until they recant.
