My friends and I took some time today to let Senator Joe Lieberman know what we thought of his decision to support a Republican filibuster. Here is a copy of the letter & picture we sent to his office.
We hope to inspire others to do the same....
Dear Senator Lieberman,
For years America's health insurance companies have raised premiums on everyday families like ours that have far outpaced the rising cost of health care. Premium raises of 20% a year have become common for no other reason than to fatten insurance company profits and pay outrageous bonuses to their CEO's. Americans deserve a choice between private health care companies that continue to gouge us and a non-profit public health insurance option. The public option is not a government entitlement program as it completely relies on premiums and is self-sustainable. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the federal government will save money as a result of the increased percentage of Americans who are insured.
Today we learned that you are considering standing in the road of meaningful health care reform with a public option. We are appalled that you would think about stopping one of the most important pieces of legislation of our lifetimes. As a member of the caucus we expect that you will at least vote on procedural questions to begin debate and proceed to a vote.
We are voters, donors to the party, active members of our political community. and most of all, Americans who are standing up to demand that you allow health care reform to proceed.
Sincerely,
Kyle Taylor
