Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and others are going to kill health care reform.
Health care reform is going to be hard, even with strong Democratic majorities. Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) receive a large amount of funding from supplement makers and havea history of being very friendly to unscientific medical practices. From DSHEA to NCCAM, Harkin (and to some extent Hatch) have worked hard to pump taxpayer money into unscientific boondoggles that hurt real people.
Now, when we all need to pull together to at get a least basic care for every American, pulling us up to 20th century standards of humanity,Harkin is trying to make sure any health care reform bill will be "religiously neutral", meaning it will place religion on par with science. The bills, if not fixed, will require coverage of faith healing, prayer, and other non-science-based practices that belong perhaps in a church, but should not be receiving a government check.
The Center for Inquiry is trying to get the word out that health care reform is too important to be killed by dangerous, expensive faith-based medicine. It's vital to tell Congress to pass a decent, moral health care bill that will cover everyone, and save money for real medicine, not faith healing.
