I just got an e-mail going around rewriting the Grasshopper and the Ant story. Basically, the Ant works hard and winter comes and the lazy Grasshopper gets the Liberals to bail him out.
Usually, I just click delete, but this time, I just had to say something. I hit reply all and here's what I said:
Here's what really happened.
The ant was a very hard worker. He paid the grasshopper who happened to run a health insurance company a hefty sum each month.
The ant worked so hard he hurt his back. The Dr. said he needed an MRI. The Grasshopper said he didn't. So the ant paid for it out of his savings. Unfortunately, the MRI showed a tumor on his spine. The Grasshopper sat back in his easy chair, lit up one of his expensive cigars, and said, "Sorry, Ant, that's a pre-existing condition."
Ant went bankrupt and when the snow began to fall, he died of his pre-existing condition. Grasshopper's cousin, the banker, foreclosed on Ant's wife. She and the children lost their home and had to move out into the freezing cold night. The Grasshopper, went to Rio and enjoyed the sunshine. After all, he was collecting a huge bonus.
While he enjoyed the sunshine, he took some of Ant's hard earned money that Ant had paid for health insurance and gave it to politicians so they would not interfere with Grasshopper's lucrative business and to kill any competition he'd have from a Public Option.
He also got Ant's cousin, who had been out of a job for six months and didn't have any health insurance, to write about the rotten Liberals who think health care is a right, not a privilege. This hard working little ant then e-mailed it to everyone.
So now you can press send and let everyone know what really happened. How much money is your Representative taking from the Insurance Companies?
