I assume that the answer to this question is almost certainly yes, but I figured that this would be a pretty good topic to post a diary on. We elected a Democratic President so we could finally get the healthcare reform that we have been unable to get done since the early 1900's. We have waited patiently and have been told to wait our turn for decades and now we are being asked to wait longer.
We should have had this thing done in July. Better yet, we should have had it done 16 years ago when we last tried it. I cannot even imagine what will happen to the Democratic party and the liberal base if this bill were to fail.
Harry Reid is taking WAY too long in the Senate to even get this to a vote. Nancy Pelosi did her job in the House and now its time for Harry Reid to do his. He has 60 votes in the Senate and should be able to deliver. He knows every Democratic Senator well and should have no problem forcing them all to at least vote for cloture.
One Democratic holdout I know Reid can get is Blanche Lincoln. She can be denied any DSCC funding for her 2010 reelection race if she doesnt vote for cloture on the bill. She can see how much fun it is to try and get reelected without any support from the national party.
Maybe Reid knows what he is doing, but I am getting pretty sick and tired of waiting. A little help from the President would be nice also.
