When the House of Representatives passed an historic healthcare reform bill, it should have been a great day: for the first time in decades, Congress was on a path to address one of the country’s greatest problems.
Instead, anti-choice Representatives, led by my opponent Joe Pitts, perverted health-care reform by adding the most sweeping restrictions on women’s reproductive rights since the 1970s.
That’s why I’m running against Pitts, and that’s why I need your help to beat him.
Simple question: Will you stand up with me? There are two ways to help right now.
This Saturday, November 21st, I will be speaking at a rally in my district to denounce the Stupak-Pitts Amendment. If you are in the area, please join me, along with National NOW, Pennsylvania NOW and Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates.
You may have read my previous diary on this radical addition to the House bill.
Their work, the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, doesn’t just continue the prohibition on federal funds for abortion. It goes MUCH further.
Under their amendment, private health insurers will no longer be allowed to offer coverage for comprehensive reproductive health for women.
It is time to say ENOUGH! It is time to send Joe Pitts a clear message that we will not allow the clock to be turned back on women’s health.
Here are the Rally Details:
Saturday, November 21st, at 10:00 AM
Chester County Courthouse
2 North High St. West Chester, PA 19380
Other guests for the event include:
Terry O'Neill, NOW president
Joanne Tosti-Vasey, PA NOW president
Louise Williams, Lancaster City Council president
State Rep. Barbara McIlvaine Smith (D-PA-156)
Please come if you’re nearby.
This amendment is a grave threat to women’s rights – and Joe Pitts will pay for it with his seat in Congress.
His hypocrisy on this issue – namely pushing for the amendment and voting against the bill – is shameful. He supposedly wants government out of healthcare, but insists on controlling intimate details of women’s lives. This amendment clearly exposes Pitts’s radical nature.
If you've seen Rachel Maddow lately (you know, an actual journalist), you're already keenly aware of the threat Joe Pitts poses:

When Maddow asked Pitts's office if he planned on voting for the final bill with the Stupak-Pitts amendment, his spokesman had a one word answer:
No.

In the local newspaper, they called me
"insanely liberal"
But whether you can be at the rally or not, I need your financial support to take the fight to Joe Pitts. Please contribute what you can now to my campaign. Fight against the man behind the amendment, Joe Pitts. And add $.21 to your donation in honor of the rally!
Contribute now: $20.21, $50.21, $100.21 or even $250.21. Your support will help me tell Joe NO! I want to raise $5,021 tonight. I want show Joe Pitts how "sanely liberal" we are.
Now is the time to make our voices heard and our choice clear: NO, JOE!
See you Saturday!
