As this is my first diary I'm sure I'll make some errors so please be patient and kind when offering corrections/advice. I generally come to DailyKos for my dose of politics and punditry. However, I have grown to recognize some of the names and even become a regular "lurker" in Cheers and Jeers.
Having recognized that there is a rather large LGBT community here, I thought I could start a new topic regarding the literature of lesbians. I'm not speaking of research into lesbians, or politics of the issue but rather the fictional side of life.
I am a dedicated reader of all kinds of literature but seem to have been drawn to this genre with the expanse of the "good" books available. Trouble is, there are so many good authors, where do you start?
Let's start with some of the "older" authors such as Karin Kallmaker and Claire McNab.
I own every single Claire McNab book and am eagerly awaiting her newest release. If you haven't read her works, I highly recommend her. She has three different series and a few romance novels. She writes from an Aussie perspective but currently lives in the states. Her characters are clever, strong and well developed.
Karin Kallmaker is a legend in the lesbian fiction realm and I enjoy most of her books. However she can get a bit old with the same story of I was once straight and then I met this great woman and now I'm gay. I know this happens in the real world but honestly how many books can we read about it. Having said that, she still has a large quantity of books that are worth reading. She is also an editor and has many new writers that she mentors.
So, I've started with a couple of my favorites. Who do you read, what do you like/dislike, where to you buy your lesbian literature, which author would you want to meet in person, which lesbian novel should be made into a movie? Or whatever else you want to discuss regarding the lesbian literature genre.
