In the midst of the excitement (woo..) surrounding the Conservadems deciding to bestow upon us all the incredible gift of voting to allow a debate to proceed on the most important health care bill in over 50 years, we get this little nugget from our friend Mary from Lousiana:
"Landrieu To Reid: No Triggers, No Bill--Negotiating Compromise With Schumer"
I've had it. It's time to tell Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu, Ben Nelson, Joe Lieberman, and Evan Bayh that if they join Republicans in filibustering this already watered-down, compromised-to-the-gills bill, then you can forget about the Democratic base bothering to vote for you. Everybody said we couldn't get anything progressive done without 60 Senators. However, clearly even 60 votes isn't enough. And if 60 isn't enough, we might as well have 54.
That means when election season rolls around, any Senator who voted with Republicans to block major Democratic legislation like HCR needs to lose their jobs. Already there's a diary pledging money to a Lieberman opponent (probably should've been doing this before his HCR ass-hattery, but I digress). Either through primaries, or sitting on our hands and wallets and ballots (if applicable), each one of these Senators needs to know that if they throw the Democratic base under the bus, then we will THROW THEM TO THE (TEABAGGING) WOLVES.
You want to throw in your lot with the Palinites, birthers, deathers, and other assorted crazies? Let them get you re-elected, asshole...
