Senator Carl Levin from Michigan, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Commitee, think that a new tax on the rich is needed to cover the cost of the US war in Afghanistan.
According to BloombergNews , Senator Carl Levin thinks that we should create a new tax only for the rich in order to fund the US wars. In fact, Senator Levin told Al Hunt, from Bloomberg, in an interview that
"higher-income Americans should be taxed to pay for more troops sent to Afghanistan and NATO should provide half of the new soldiers" (...) "additional income tax to the upper brackets, folks earning more than $200,000 or $250,000 a year, could fund more troops"
.
Here some highlight of his interview, he said:
"They have done incredibly well, and I think that it’s important that we pay for it if we possibly can instead of increasing the federal debt load"
Other countries in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization should bear responsibility for delivering half the additional troops needed to secure the conflict zone and train Afghan forces
I like the idea. Didn't Lincoln create a new tax to fund the War during the civil war ? Instead of whining about the deficit, while supporting two expensive wars oversea, maybe the Republicans should get behind senator Levin's proposal. Main street American is giving their sons and daughters lives without any paypack. Since the ordinary americans are giving up their dreams and hopes for the love of their country, it won't be hard for rich people to pay higher taxes in order to support our troops and to show their patriotism.
Of course, we all know that Republicans will scream "Outrage" on this proposal. They want to cut taxes but they don't like deficit. I never get how we're supposed to cut the deficit without raising taxes ? Where the money should be coming from to reduce our national debt ? Republicans love war and are all chickenhawks, but they refuse to pay for war.
Here the question, do you agree with Carl Levin ? Why or Why not ?
