We've been reading and watching (maybe) stories that tell us how great privatization is of roads, police, fire, education, etc.
On this coming Saturday (9am Eastern) on CSPAN's Book TV, you can view Dr. Robert Glennon in his talk, Unquenchable: America's Water Crisis and What to Do About It. His new book is titled: "Water Follies: Groundwater Pumping and the Fate of America's Fresh Waters."
Mr. Glennon is a University of Arizona law professor.
The CSPAN synopsis says: Mr. Glennon uses humor to describe what he calls the country's water supply problem, then proposes market-based solutions that look at water as a commodity as well as a human right.

The reason I suggest you watch this talk is to get an idea of what the proponents of 'water system privatization' are saying and advocating. Imagine the fortunes to be made with: IPO's, stock speculation, derivatives, and commodificaton of water.
The Financial Times, one or two years ago, had a special pull out section dedicated to the 'great idea' (my phrase) of water system privatization, and I personally found it appalling, but in tune with business fundamentalism---privatize everything we do and need. I can imagine our being billed for oxygen and C02 based upon our body weight and fat ratio. I think we need to get ahead of this trend. Next, we will have to pay individually for police and fire protection, just as we do now for health care. Early warning.
I felt it was important to tell you about this 'over the horizon' trend of water system privatization and to suggest that this is another Enron-like (did you know that Carbon trading was the idea of Enron CEO Ken Lay?) scam on the way. Good Luck. Watch Book TV on CSPAN this Saturday.
