Today's jobless numbers are grim - the highest unemployment rate in 26 years. Ten percent unemployment, for the first time since 1983, and if you count the underemployed, and those who quit looking, it's 17%. People hark back to a "jobless recovery", but that didn't work before and it won't work now. The only source of capital for jobs now, says Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich, is a new Works Progress Administration.
In this vlog Dr. Reich argues for a reprise of the WPA. There are some unaddressed questions in his presentation, such as how are we going to create a simultaneoulsy growing and GHG-reducing economy for the USA? But for now, this is a good start. Sorry to be so brief - I'm at work.
