I got myself on the mailing list of Conservatives for Patients' Rights. Today's email is self-congratulatory on how their efforts have succeeded in rocking libruls back on their heels from steamrolling through what they call 'ObamaCare.' Whatever.
According to this email from former Columbia/HCA head Rick Scott:
Americans don't want a government overhaul of the system.
Americans simply want lower costs.
So, um, they really don't care if people actually get the health care they need, they just don't want to pay less than what they are currently paying. Gotcha.
This seems quite odd - I don't even see reference to 'if you like what you have' in this statement. Hmmmmm. Also kinda disappointing there's no name-calling in this particular email - they're slipping.
This, however, may be useful information to some... Scott claims the following Congress Critters are as yet uncommitted in their vote for the HCR bill:

Here's how he frames the dangers of this bill's passage:
We must continue the fight against ObamaCare. Tomorrow is a crucial test. A vote in favor of a government run health-care plan will result in
•Rationed care for Americans
•Higher costs of care for Americans
•Huge tax increases for Americans
Um, Dude? Health care is ALREADY rationed in America - it's just rationed on ability to pay for it. It goes without saying that his other assertions are unsupported in his email.
After the obligatory request for donations, the email has this:
*CPRE is in the process of applying for recognition of its tax exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donors are advised to consult their own tax advisors regarding the deductibility of any gifts or contributions to CPRE.
For those of you who know tax code (and just about anyone will know it better than ME), groups which form with the specific intent of shaping legislation really ought to get 501 (c)4 rather than 501 (c)3 status.
But he does have his priorities in order - he asks that readers make a donation BEFORE phoning Congress. ;-)
According to Sourcewatch:
Rick Scott is a multimillionaire former hospital CEO who, in 2009, emerged as a prominent leader of the opposition to U.S. President Barack Obama's healthcare reform plans. Scott founded a group called Conservatives for Patients' Rights and put $5 million of his own money towards a television advertising campaign aimed at trying to build resistance to any proposal for a government-run health insurance program. Scott's ad campaign is being coordinated by CRC Public Relations, the group that masterminded the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" attacks against 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry. In the ads, Scott argues that whatever effort Obama likely puts forth to change the health-care system, it will put the country on a slippery slope toward a bureaucratic, British-style national health service.
