One of the things I like best about Kos is the additional opinion polling.
I think that it is possible to reveal truths that pundits and politicians (including many Democrats) want to hide by asking fair and balanced questions.
I would like to know what fraction of people in the USA and in key states prefer the bill emerginng in the Senate to the bill emerging in the House.
I think just asking which they prefer would not be useful as people don't know what is in the bills.
I'd ask questions on
1a. Public options. Public option as in the House bill vs public option with opt out as in the Senate bill.
Or, if the Senate goes that way
1b. Public options. Public option as in the House bill vs public option
vs public option with trigger as in the Senate bill.
- How to pay for it. Tax individuals with incomes over 500,000 and families with incomes over 1,000,000 or tax expensive health insurance.
- How generous should the subsidies be ? Generous and expensive as in the House bill or less generous and expensive as in the Senate bill.
- How tough should the employer mandate be ? Tough as in the House bill or less tough as in the Senate bill ?
Obviously I haven't even tried to word the questions well. The proposal would be to ask questions along those lines translated into decent English which is comprehensible to people who aren't politics adicts like me. The idea is to ask while the Senate is debating aiming partly to inform the conference committee.
