Short diary here. I'm just waiting to hear ( as Mrs Eastvan just said 'Did it just get gaveled?") Nancy Pelosi say exactly what I just heard her say..." The Bill is passed...".
Done. It passed.
But not by much ( apparantly one last minute GOP vote for the bill... who is that Rep? And is he/she planning to leave the GOP?).
And that is the gist of this diary.
During the last few day we have heard and seen talking head bloviators over analyze the dead tea leaves, feathers and bones and the stars from two state elections. Even after anyone stopped paying attention. Including John Corzine and Creigh Deeds -- even they had moved on. And we heard some mention of the much more important special election in NY 23. ( A district I have some familiarity with due to geographic family placement and where I have spent time )
We all know the story of '23 now --- the whole " As the GOP Turns " soap opera as they undergo their ritual purging of the impure that led to the election of a Democrat for the first time in Sarah Palins lifetime. And John Boeners. And Micheal Steeles. In fact, in all of their lifetimes combined.
Well done them in their combined effort of electoral failure. For they ensured the passage of the House H.C. Reform Bill. Practically the first thing Owen said on his arival in the House was they he would support the Bill.
It passed. But barely. At the last count I saw 39 Dems had voted Nay. But 218 had voted Yay.
And, I like to think, the one that pushed it over was the Congressman from NY 23. Not a bad weeks work for the voters of that district. They set a brushfire that could incinerate the remnants of the GOP and guaranteed the passage of Health Care Reform.
How 'bout a big round of applause for the voters of NY 23. And NJ and Va? Don't worry --- we'll get you on the rebound.
