I swear I thing people here live in a vacuum. I know people on here are comparing this bill to single payer and it looks like shit. I mean compared to the current system, to me personally I think its still ass. But the current system is hairy baboon ass and I have nothing against baboons but thats just a worse looking ass. For all the people who want healthcare reform to fail what is your plan after it dies. I dont mean to sound like a douchebag I just want to know what is the alternative. I think I'm a progressive but to be honest I barely understand what it means anymore. Does it mean to go on TV and go on the offensive against republicans like grayson has been doing? (I applaud him for that. Thats not a shot at him). Does it mean voting against health care reform that isnt single-payer. (I dont applaud people for that. That is a shot) What does being a progressive entail. what I thought it meant is somebody who understands that the government has a role to play in improving the lives of everyday people.
If you voted against this bill you stand in the way of that principle. which IMO is the bedrock principle of which Ideas like single-Payer stand own. I think we should primary the blue dogs even if they are in conservative districts because thats when we have the most power TO really effect the extent of change we wont. but to be honest I can take it when my enemy stabs me in the back but what I can stand is when its a friend some one who knows what these small but significant reforms mean to people in real life terms. We dont live in a vacuum we live in a world where the consequences are devastating for people if the status quo is allowed to stand. I dont mean to deter people who are forcefully pushing the debate in the direction they believe it should go. But understanding this debate doesnt go on in a vacuum. Some people dont have the luxury of waiting until public pressure reaches a higher decibel and congress is forced to do single payer. Thats my two cents
