Fox News is getting really good at this. They are becoming experts at inserting nontruths in their articles taht may be difficult to pick up on, but have one goal. To distort the facts and history.
I do go to fauxnews (dot) com to read what they have to say, and yes, it upsets me many times. Why do I put myself through that torture?
One of their frontpage articles has to do with the regulatory overhaul. Here is the very first sentence in the article:
A year after Wall Street failures plunged the U.S. into recession
Sorry Fox News!! The United States has not been in recession for a year. The National Bureau of Economic Research stated in December 2008 that the U.S. has been in a recession since December 2007, one year before the Wall Street fiasco that the Bush administration's nonregulatory stance created. Now, I realize that Fox News would like others to believe that the recession began at the end of the Bush administration. Why wouldn't they? If what they are saying is true, that would mean that Obama has been in charge during 80% of the recession. Why wouldn't they want their viewers to think that. It benefits the Republicans and it feeds into their denial that the recession started under their watch, long before Bush left office.
Everyone in this country knew that we were in a recession well before it was announced. It came as no surprise. It also comes as no surprise that that the right is trying their hardest to portray this as Obama's recession.
We need to call out their lies and distortions like we have been. We need to be in contact with news organizations across the board to set the record straight. We need to personally call Fox News and question them. I don't care if a receptionist picks up. They need to be held accountable.
Listen people. We are up against a certain breed of people. Yes, I used that word. They have no use for logic, rational thought, or intelligence. They know the lies that they spread, which are intentional. I get emails everyday from Repub friends which are easily debunked within 30 seconds and they don't care. They laugh at it and continue to send to bunk emails. We need to communicate with others using logic, reason, and yes, sarcasm. I can't tell you how many times I used sarcasm and humor in debates with repubs, especially when they are put on the spot in front of others. They get angry and lash out, but do so because they are stumped. For example, my coworker had this tagline of a Thomas Jefferson quote:
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not
She repeated this in person at a luncheon. My response? "You know, I went on a treasure hunt. I can't find any article or book that the quote was in. Actually, nobody ever has. Can you find out and get back to me? I mean, it's like republicans made up a quote out of thin air and attributed it to a founding father. Get back to me on that please." She was embarassed, pissed, put on the spot. Most importantly she was called out on her B.S. and others knew it.
P.S. Yes, I know, short diary, but gotta pick up my son and go to Chuck E Cheese :)
