Much has been written about the polling suggesting the disillusionment of the lefty Democratic base.

Although I'm a relative newcomer to the dkos party (c my UID #) and a relative newcomer to the careful observation of politics and politicians, I will make the following observation.
The Republicans are winning.
Even with a team down many people, they're winning.
Their biggest win is not killing single payer.
Their biggest win is not killing the public option.
Their biggest win is not killing the Medicare buy in.
Their biggest win is not killing cap and trade climate control.
etc.
Their biggest win is . . . after the fold
Their biggest win will be making us (the progressives) quit.
Sitting out 2010? We better not!
WTF - did you really think this would be easy? Did you really think the interests financially threatened by reform would roll over and play dead?
Did you really think Wall Street would play nice after the bail out? From their perspective they made the most profitable deal in history. And therefore deserve their bonusses. And you know what - they are right.
Bushco sold out the taxpayers coming in (having the government running structural deficits and borrowing to put money in the pockets of the wealthy) and going out - one of the worst deals in history.

QUITTERS NEVER WIN WINNERS NEVER QUIT
Taking the Palin approach (quitting) is not the answer.
If more than 70% of the people support something that cannot be passed in the legislature, the legislature is NOT representing the interests of the people.
Money talks - bullsh*t walks and buying a legislator, especially a Senator, is not only cheap but good business. The small market 'flyover' states give you the best bang for your buck.
If there's one thing that we should all learn from this is that PUBLIC financing of elections is good business FOR THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER. And the prohibition on private money should be far reaching. Including 'employment' of family and all forms of direct and indirect financial benefit.
No more earmarks for campaign contributors, etc.

QUITTERS NEVER WIN WINNERS NEVER QUIT
Quite frankly, the Republicans are looking more like winners than we are. And they certainly aren't quitters.
WE CAN'T QUIT!!
There's too much at stake.
