If it wasn't such a trainwreck for this country I'd say that Republican politics is almost a joy to behold. Watching the synergy of political messaging and legislative execution form a perfectly destructive web of sophistry that cripples and deludes the promise of democracy, is a sight to see.
They have beaten us again it we have no one to blame but ourselves.
I'm sure that this isn't news to anyone here but I thought a little reminder was in order.
The message is simple. Government doesn't work and we can prove it. This message works on so many levels it is scary.
- It is so simple even a tea party attendee can remember it. These people can't spell and can't do basic math, but they can remember this message.
- The message is so effective that they can even get the other side to believe it. Don't believe me look over there ---->. An entire rec list of filled with (almost) nothing but lament over the sorry state of Democratic leadership and broken government.
- It is easy to accomplish.
Everyone on DKos knows that this is the Republican message and it has been since Ronnie Ray-Gun uttered the most destructive words of his entire degenerate political career. People associate the Republican brand with it and all they have to do is prove that they are right.
Which brings me to the execution part. Simplicity itself.
- When in power use the machinery of government to attack your enemies and break things.
- When out of power use the machinery of goverment to attack your enemies and make them look incompetent.
Bury the process in paperwork, obfuscate and delay at every turn. Screech and moan at how slow the process is going, while stamping your feet and crying. Find allies on the other side and co-opt them to your cause because just like you, they know government doesn't work either. The message is confirmed in a bi-partisan fashion and electoral success will be achieved.
They win because they keep it simple. They win because we give up. They win because we can't tell the difference between a few bad apples and a rotten process.
More Democrats won't do it. Better Democrats won't do it. We need a better message for America and we need to stop believing what Republicans tell us about the state of our government.
I'm not sure where to go from here but I know one thing:
Bitching impotently about the failures of our leadership isn't the answer.
and you can quote me on that. They have an army of paid lobbyists that promote their cause around the clock. What is our answer to that?
They have a multi-national corporate media machine that saturates the hearts and minds of the voters of this country. How do we stop them?
They beat us because we believe them when they say the system is broken. What can we do about this?
These are the issues that need to be dealt with and the sooner the better. So please lets stop with the WATB bit and do something constructive before we end up with President Palin and I find myself living as an ex-pat in Costa Rica.
