I just popped this letter to my Senators (Durbin and Burris)...
Dear Senator Durbin,
I am extremely disappointed with the recent developments with the HCR bill currently under consideration in the Senate. As it is presently constituted, it has crossed the threshold of being a bad bill and I urge you to vote against it.
[more after the jump]
The lack of a Public Option or viable alternative such as the Medicare buy-in while maintaining mandates for the purchase of Private sector supplied insurance is a disaster in waiting.
This is not a matter of the imperfect being the enemy of the good, this is a completely untenable bill and will make life far worse for many people while engorging the profits of the Health Care Insurance Industry.
I urge you to scuttle this bill and press for a restart of the process so that a real progressive solution can be put forward that will finally remove the oppressive stranglehold that Insurance Companies have on Americans.
It is also important that you stand up against the corrupting influence these companies have in our political process. This bill as constituted is a playbook example of corporate greed run amok.
If this bill passes, far from the prognostications of the myopic beltway of Democratic gains, I predict that those that will have voted for this stinker will face a terrible wrath from the electorate.
